Cleaning Recipes for Spring


Last week we shared key supply ideas for cleaning your own home with basic ingredients. The response was fantastic. It looks as if many of you would like to make your own products, save dollars and diminish chemicals within your own home. Here are a few of our best recipes with ingredients that were on our list.


Automatic Dishwasher Powder

2 cups washing soda

2 cups borax

20 drops lavender essential oil

Combine all ingredients making sure to blend essential oil in well. Store in plastic container. Use 2 tablespoons per load of dishes. If you find glasses with residue, reduce amount to 1 ½ tablespoons.


Basic Sink Cleanser

¼ cup baking soda

½ cup vinegar

3 drops lavender, rosemary, lemon, lime, or orange essential oil.

Combine all ingredients. Rinse sink first with hot water. Pour cleanser into since and wipe with ECO cloth or sponge. Rinse again with hot water. Good for porcelain or stainless-steel sinks. You can rinse with vinegar afterwards to prevent residue from baking soda.


Lemon Cleanser for Kitchen Appliances

1 tsp. liquid castile soap

1/8 cup white vinegar

¼ cup lemon juice

2 cups water

4 drops lemon, lime, orange, or eucalyptus essential oil

1 tsp. borax


Combine all ingredients in a plastic spray bottle. Shake well before each use. Spray generously on appliance surface and wipe with damp ECO sponge or cloth. Wipe dry with a cloth or towel.


Kitchen Floor Cleaner

1-gallon hot water

2 TBS. liquid castile soap

10 drops pine essential oi

5 drops cypress essential oil

(You can switch out essential oils to suit your taste)

Combine all ingredients in a large bucket. Dip a mop into the bucket and squeeze out excess liquid. Rinsing is not necessary.

(As always, keep pets away from any cleaning agent)


Toilet Bowl Cleaner (Great for toilets with stains or rings)

1 cup borax

1 cup vinegar

10 drops pine or lavender essential oil

5 drops lemon or lime essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a plastic bowl or bottle. Pour all at once into the toilet bowl. Allow to sit overnight. In the morning, just flush.


Easy Toilet Bowl Cleaner

½ cup baking soda

¼ cup white vinegar

10 drops tea tree essential oil or other essential oil


Combine all ingredients and add to the bowl. Swipe and flush.
