Create a Bathroom Aromatherapy Spa

Here are some easy tips and tricks to create your own fabulous smelling and wonderfully clean bathroom. You won't ever go back to traditional cleaning methods once you smell these and also see how easy it is to clean the dirtiest place in your home without utilizing chemicals that are harmful to you, your septic, the earth and your pets.

To maintain a nice fresh aroma in the bathroom, place a few drops of your favorite essential oil on the cardboard tube inside the roll of toilet paper. Every time you turn the roll, the aroma will be released.

Place a bowl of potpourri in the bathroom and be sure to either use potpourri refresher oil or replace the potpourri every three months. If you have pets in your home, make sure your herb/floral choices are safe for them too. If unsafe, consider using a muslin bag to hang it out of reach.

Bath mats and rugs can have an unpleasant odor. Between washings keep a canning jar with baking soda in it and add 8 to 10 drops of essential oil per ½ cup of baking soda. Sprinkle on the mat/rug, wait 15 minutes and vacuum. Keep pets out while you are caring for your mats.

Stand alone toothbrush holders should be washed in the dishwasher often. They can be harbors for bacteria, germs and dirt. If it is full of debris, let it stand for 30 minutes in a sink filled with water and 2-3 drops of tea tree essential oil. Then wash by hand or in the dishwasher.

Combs and hairbrushes can get grungy too. Let them stand in a container with 1 ½ cups water, ½ cup apple cider vinegar and 20 drops of tea tree, rosemary, lavender or eucalyptus essential oil. Rinse and air dry.

We all scrub the toilet bowl vigorously. But the germs in the bathroom are most often found behind and under the seat. It needs frequent and careful sanitizing. Here is an excellent antibacterial germ buster for surface areas on the toilet and under/behind the seat:

2 cups water

¼ cup liquid castile soap

1 TBS tea tree essential oil

10 drops eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil

Combine all ingredients in plastic spray bottle and shake well. Spray on toilet surfaces. Wipe clean with a damp cloth or sponge. ECO if possible.

Need to clean the toilet bowl? Here you go!

½ cup baking soda

¼ cup white vinegar

10 drops tea tree essential oil

Combine all ingredients and add to the bowl. Give the bowl a swipe and you are all done.

Have a vacation home or toilet that doesn’t get cleaned regularly? Have a ring around the toilet? Give this a try:

1 cup borax

1 cup vinegar

10 drops lavender essential oil

5 drops lemon essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix. Pour it all at once into the toilet bowl. Allow it to sit overnight. Then, just flush. You should find a very clean toilet!

Cheers to a fresh smelling and sparkling clean bathroom!

Thank you for this! It's good to know there's something I can use that's just as effective as chemical cleaners. I've always been afraid to steer away from them, for fear of my house not being "truly clean".
