There is something wonderful about farm fresh eggs. It's not only the beautiful colors but also the rich yellow yolk which takes your breath away. The shells of farm eggs are thicker than those from the grocery store that were factory raised. The calcium and phosphorous that chickens from a non-factory farm eat is superior and more plentiful. The eggs from a farm like ours are free range. The chickens roam, forage, scratch and peck at the ground. Chickens are meant to peck and scratch....they are happier this way. Happy birds lay more eggs.
Store bought eggs are usually laid by birds that are kept in small cages or free roaming in chicken houses. They sit in their feces much of the day and often don't see the light of day. They are usually fed only pelleted foods and do not live a natural lifestyle. How healthy is that bird? Health certainly impacts the quality of the egg.
Free foraging, eating plants and bugs is what a chicken is designed for. Pelleted foods are okay as a supplement but when we eat as we are intended to eat, we are healthier too just as the chicken is. For the richest, tastiest egg look for a farm fresh egg. You won't be disappointed.
