I thought I would give you a few tips for cleaning your house with essential oils. Since winter seems to be a time when we are more "cooped up", there might be time for more thorough cleaning. The citrus essential oils tend to be more uplifting too! Look for them to help chase away your winter blues.
If you would like to make an all purpose household spray wipe for your counters consider adding 2 drops tea tree essential oil and 2 drops lemon essential oil to a 6 ounce bottle of warm water. Use this smaller quantity so that you will be able to warm/refill easily again and your oils won't go to waste. Make sure you test an inconspicuous area first before washing your entire counter. Also, do not expose your pets to essential oils on the counter. You will want to be certain to dry your counters with a cloth after cleaning. For your bathtub, consider mixing like quantities of baking soda and vinegar (remember there is a chemical reaction here so use a larger container to blend, it will foam). For every one cup of baking soda/vinegar mixed add 5 drops of lemon, lime or lemongrass essential oil. (Choose one essential oil)
Spray vinegar mixed with cinnamon essential oil as a great mold deterrent. 2 drops for every 1 cup of vinegar. Wonderful for the shower.
To clean your toilet, mix the half and half of baking soda/vinegar (equal amounts of each remembering the chemical reaction that causes lots of foaming so use a large container to blend) and add 5 drops of lemon, lime or bergamot essential oil for every one cup of baking soda/vinegar blend. (Choose one essential oil)
Trash can stink? Add a cotton ball with 2 drops of any citrus and 2 drops of tea tree oil to the bottom of the garbage can. It will decrease odor. BUT, make sure that your pets are unable to get into your garbage can because essential oils are not for ingestion.
If you add 4-5 drops of citrus or peppermint essential oil to a vacuum bag or dust container you will have a great smelling vacuum.
